i taught myself photoshop in high school and it's the major reason i got into this field. If the purpose of this class is to teach kids marketable skills they can use in creative fields the adobe suite is hands down industry standard. That being said, the adobe suite is cost prohibitive for many smaller businesses. knowledge of the adobe suite (indesign, photoshop, illustrator, after effects) is a great skill to have and is useful in many creative fields where macs are standard. I don't have any concrete data to show, but i can say as someone who works in major publishing i've only used indesign.
